See my current auctions for some unusual watches. Williamson Verge Fusee Tulip Pillars. This watch is very large 69 mm in diameter. These early watches went through many changes during there lifetime and were carried for generations before they were retired. In saying this most of these early pieces made during the late 1600′s and early 1700′s had changes to them during the mid to late 18th century as the style changed. The original silver/champleve dials were changed to the popular porcelain dials, made these much easier to see and more in fashion. The movement on this R. The Williamson name was an important family in early English watchmaking. The movement is intact, untouched and everything looks in good condition. The plates are wide with 4 large early tulip pillars and “D” shaped balance cock. The gear train appears in good condition, crown wheel teeth look fine(see photo) and balance wheel pivots not broken, retains the old early hairspring(few coils). The fusee chain is intact and I can see the wheel under the mainspring barrel to set the tension on the fusee chain. I don’t see any broken pivots or damage to the gear train and when you move the balance wheel you can see the crown wheel engage the pallets correctly. It appears the sterling inside case is original to the movement. I can see part of a makers mark”D” inside but can’t see the first letter. The case/dial went through its change around 1780-90. The porcelain dial was fitted to the original dial plate so no new holes were put in the movement, fancy French style hands added and a custom circa 1780-90 outer case with polychome tortoise shell design and beaded edges that were popular during this era. The inner case fits the outer case perfectly and it certainly a large and thick watch. This should be remarkable watch once it has been serviced/restored to its glory. THE WILLIAMSON WATCH IS EARLY WITH TULIP PLATES. MY APOLOGIES FOR THE MISTAKE, THANKS.
