Rare Chinese Duplex Pocket Watch, Unmarked Silver Case, To Restore (E89). Please see photographs for condition. The pictures form an important part of the description. The case is unmarked apart from a serial number and the initials CF. The watch is not working. It is fully wound at present, the balance is secure but stiff and not easily moving freely. When shaken a bit it will tick once or twice but thats it. The case is 49.5mm in diameter. A lovely piece and a great restoration project. Please see other items. Gross weight of assembled watch 70.0 dwt (108.9 g). Examined by yours truly, a specialist in antique and vintage watches since 1971: Good running order but not serviced, winding a bit tight due to drying oil, will benefit from overhaul, excellent movement condition overall, very few microfine scratches, typical darkening of plates; dial hairline from 50 seconds corner to center; hands excellent, tiny rust bloom; case shows little wear, a few microfine scratches, more scuffs and microfine scratches on cuvette, no dents or dings, complete engine-turned detail with slight reduction around shoulders; good hunting action and spring; bow tight, little worn, crown shows very light wear with reduction at the highlight knurling; good glass crystal. This Illinois Sangamo Special RR grade watch was made in about 1925. I believe it to be a 17 size and to be an unmarked 60 hour motor barrel. It is in it’s original case. The dial is silvered metal and I believe it could also be original as I’ve read that these Sangamo Specials could be ordered with such. These dials are – I think – less common that enamel ones. The hands have some bends. The crystal is glass – it can come out when you open the front cover – though it doesn’t always. The movement is lever set. The watch winds, sets and runs well. I will check the timekeeping the next day or so. The case has some wear to the 14k gold filling – most noticeable on the pendant and bow but also around some of the edges of the covers and case. The back cover has a very small mark or indent near the center. The hinges are good and the covers open and close as they should. Running about 30sec fast a day so likely wants a clean/oil.
