This watch is a mens size 16 (55mm in diameter) housed in an oversized scalloped fancy gold filled hunter case. This watch is an extremely rare 17 Jewel 16 size Bunn Special Hunter. This is the 13. Watch ever made of all of the 16 size Bunn or Bunn Special Hunter watches! The 19J, 21J and 23J hunters were made after the 17J pieces. This is a first run piece. Specifically in relation to the 17 Jewel 16 size Bunn Hunters, there were only a total of 192 made across 2 small runs making this variant one of the rarest Bunn or Bunn Specials variants to collect. More specifically of the 192 made there were two variants. This watch being the very first run made of the two runs and only 100 exist of its type! The other run was made much later in the 3.3million serial number range. Not only is this piece the first run and the 13. Made of the first run of Bunn Hunters, this watch is the 13. Made of all Bunn and Bunn Specials ever made if you check the Illinois serial number records in the Illinois Watch Co book which I have and confirmed. An amazing piece of Bunn history here. The two 17J Bunn Hunter variants are not discussed or separated in the normal pocket watch price guide as they are just simplified there all under one banner, this variant should be listed as a 4 star rarity. There has not been many sightings of watches from this first run of 100 so this watch holds a much higher premium from what is listed in as book value. My watch here for sale with no enamel loss also being very early and potentially being the earliest 16s Bunn or Bunn Special hunter known existing to date! The movement itself is in very good condition as you can see with damaskeening still very bright and clear. All of the gold filled wording is still in tact as well which is fantastic! The movement has all of the high grade features that you would expect solid gold balance screws, solid gold gear train and solid gold jewel settings. The watch runs very well and sets very well. The movement is not original to the case so I will not guarantee that level of originality. I need to state this as some people expect a perfectly new movement as it came off the production floor when in fact this is over 100 years old and I do not have any idea of its history over that period. The serial number of the movement is 2577313. So this movement was the 13. 16s Bunn Hunter ever made. The double sunk Illinois dial is in fantastic condition. There are no chips or hairlines whatsoever that I can see and I have checked under the bezel. The crystal is in great condition with no chips or scratches. This Gold filled Wadsworth 25 year hunter case is a stunning piece and hard to find this oversized and with a scalloped edge, for such a special movement you have to have a special case. The case is fancy and shows some pocket smoothing and does have some wear through but only the high points of the scalloped edge and stem, as you can see it presents stunningly. All of the case lids open and close well and stay latched in place perfectly with absolutely no gaps. All of the case lids hinges are tight. A very large oversized watch to hold in your hand at 55mm diameter, most 16 size cases are 50mm in diameter. The watch is stem wound and the hands are lever set. The watch is currently running well and the hands set very well. You Illinois Bunn and Bunn Special collectors out there know these watches rarely come up for sale and this watch is priced very well so secure it quickly. This is a HUGE antique GOLIATH DOXA RAILROAD open face pocket watch for restoration. Circa late 1800s to early 1900s. The large case measures 68.1mm in diameter. The white enamel MONTGOMERY style dial is in decent shape with hairlines and edge chips. The SILVER or NICKEL plated? Open case is in good shape with normal wear. The inner case is stamped. 1813 SUPERB MOVEMENT, HUGE PAIR CASE VERGE FUSEE ENGLISH S/SILVER POCKET WATCH. Almost Goliath in size, this is an extremely nice pocket watch, in working order, fitted with the original bullseye glass & enamel dial, with a nice movement. The movement is unsigned but has a serial number 2059. In working order, winds nicely, ticking slowly though, and not tested for accuracy of time, so will need at least a service. The inner and outer cases are both hallmarked London with date letter S for the year 1813. Dial very nice, missing minute hand, wear to glass. The outer case approx 65mm in diameter & weighs an impressive 118 grams, the inner case 55mm in diameter. Overall weight an impressive 337 grams.
