Important Onion pair case Repousse watch Charles Cabrier 1725. Son of the watchmaker Charles Cabrier, from London. The figurative decorated outer case was made by Londons silversmith Mauris. Pair case made of silver. Outer repoussé case with figurative relief like made scenery. At the lower edge the signature of silversmith Mauris. The inner case is smooth. Both cases are located in a very nice state of preservation. Glass with just minimal traces of wearing. Enamel dial with Roman hours I to XII and Arabic minutes. The dial is in very nice condition. Fold out gilt full plate movement with verge escapement, chain and fusee. Elaborately decorated and pierced movement pillars. Intricately engraved and sawn balance cock. Three armed brass balance wheel. The clean movement is working properly. Overall, the watch is in excellent, very nice and good working condition. Size Diameter 55mm, weight 132g. Charles Cabrier II: Charles Cabriers father (a French watchmaker who emigrated to England after the revocation of the Edict of Nantes) and his son – Charles Cabrier I and III – were both reputed makers as well. Cabrier himself began his apprenticeship in 1719, was a member of the Clockmakers Company from 1726 on and a master from 1757 until 1772. Until 1759 he had a workshop in 79 Broad Street, near Finsbury Circus; he then moved to Pig Street – which does not exist anymore – near Threadneedle Street. The watch we have here may have been a joint effort by Charles Cabrier II and his son. Baillie mentions Charles Cabrier II as a “famous maker”, Britten calls him a “celebrated maker”. 18th Cent Gilt Pair Cased Verge Pocket Watch by Charles Clayton, London c. This listing is for an English 18th century verge fusee pocket watch by Charles Clayton, London, circa 1760. In reasonably good condition and good working order. The watch has a square pillar verge fusee chain driven movement with pierced balance cock and Tompion regulator. The movement is working well and runs the full length of the chain. Couple of teeth missing from the contrate wheel but doesn’t affect the running of the watch. Movement signed “Cha Clayton, London, 2993″. Gilt metal pair case. Majority of the gilding has worn off over time. Both cases clip shut. Some signs of wear and light dents commensurate with the watches age, please see pictures for more details. The original white enamel dial is in good condition for its age, some minor scratches but no major damage. Bullseye glass in good condition. The watch measures approx 50mm across. The movement has been removed from the case to photograph. All my watches are tested on a flat surface. 18TH CENTURY SILVER PAIR CASE VERGE FUSEE POCKET WATCH. IN GOOD CONDITION AND WORKING ORDER. A early eighteenth century English pair cased verge fusee pocket watch by A Charles, London. The gilded full plate movement is maker signed and serial numbered 206. The silver pair cases are in very good condition with their original bow and pendant, they carry matching hallmarks for London 1742 with the case makers mark EL Edward Leeming 24 Giltspur St. The white enamel dial has Black Roman hour numerals, black Arabic minute numerals and beetle & poker hands, it is one of the earliest examples of an enamel dial on an English watch. The outer case measures 50mm (approx 2) in diameter and the combined weight including movement is 116.5 grammes (4.1ozs). Condition: Both matching cases are original to the movement and have no dents or dings, the covers open and close correctly with good strong hinges. The dial has a faint hairline, with tiny chip at 6, the beetle and poker hands and bullseye crystal are in good order. The movement is in strong working order and keeps to good verge time.
