Pocket Watch Case

This recent find comes from Estate of Retired Military Officer and Pocket Watch Collector. Pocket watch best I can figure dates to the late 1700′s and was a product of John Priest J. PRIEST who was a workman for George Graham and Thomas Colley a Simon Barkley was also brought in as a partner until his death in the 1750′s at this point John Priest took Barkley’s place next to Colley (Information from the 18th century vergefusee site). Timepiece is a Counter-Clockwise wind and has the Baluster Pillars with what I believe is a Gilt Brass Full-Plate. Movement is signed J. Priest with Birstwith No. 204 in Cursive under name. Both cases seem to match and look to be sterling, They also show some expected use/age wear (See picture #11 and #12). Outer case has 3 round service cards from what looks to be dates from 1811/1840s and 1870s (Also 2 quote card’s). Previous owner had watch serviced around 2016 and it Runs Good – (I have put Watch through 3 full winds and it tends to run +/- 1 to 3 minutes) it tends to start out slow but catches up between the 12 hour and 24 hour mark? 18th century english pocket watch. Signed key wind Movement by benjamin sidey, London, model no. Dial: later white enamel, with black Roman numerals, 5 minute markers, fleur-de-lis hands. Inner case: plain polished Gilt Sterling, bearing english hallmarks for London (leopard’s head), sterling (lion), maker IW, date letter O for 1771, measures 41mm, has glass crystal. (there is a piece of paper that says Benj sidey 1769 inside the outer case, that date may be for the movement). Outer case: ornate gilt silver, featuring repousse mythological scene with two figures within a scrolling framework, measures 47.5mm. As is condition, no key, we don’t know if it works, the outer case has some wear to the gilt finish on the high points, was in storage for many years, previously owned, from the collection of a local pocket watch collector. A Rare Museum Quality. The piece features an elegant design, with all the charm of 18th-century verge fusee watches. The silver casing has a round ball pendant with oval bow. The Porcelain dial is white enamel with Arabic numerals and the hands are gold. The watch movement is composed of a brass full plate resting on ornate rectangular pillars, fusee with chain, verge escapement, pierced and engraved balance bridge secured with two screws and silvered regulator. The movement is in good running condition. Key and Anchor Fob included. Measures 2 1/4 in diameter and weighs 98.7 grams. Winds up and works. About 48 mm diameter across the outer case shagreen covered & is in superb condition only damage to cover is at the pip to open the case all the pins are in place i thin the outer case is not solid gold though it is a gold color the inner case is solid gold 18k or better by my reckoning topped off by its original ribbed bow & twisty pendant 7 knuckles on the hinge for the front bezel clear glass bull’s eye crystal excellent deep blued steel beetle & poker hands classic english enamel dial with arabic 5 minute markers & roman numerals the dial is in very nice condition catch to swing out movement sticks out through the front of the dial at the bottom of the 6 sparkling fire gilt movement is signed matt hill london # 181 i have matt listed in my bailles from 1744 till 1790 & feel confident this is one of his earlier pieces due to several clues…. Such as the catch latch sticking out from the front & the worm wheel setup under the mainspring barrel lovely hand pierced & engraved balance cock with a floral edge & a bird of paradise? Antique 1758 Georgian 18th Century Verge Fusee Pair Cased Cased Pocket Watch. This pocket watch is not actually verge but a leaver watch. It was made in 1758 by Thomas Ore of Wolverhampton who was working until 1779. The watch has square pillars and a lovely engraved movement. The cases are original to the best of my knowledge they fit so well I dont see how they could be anything else. The inner case is made of silver guilt and is hallmarked for London 1758. There are some condition issues as can be seen in the photos but its still a nice looking watch. The watch movement is for spears or repair. The balance wheel appears to be later and is not swinging. Antique Silver 18th Century Georgian Verge Fusee Pair Cased Pocket Watch. This watch was made in the mid 18th century in England the movement is signed J Moore London and has square pillars and lovely engraving. Unusually the movement balance and table are made of solid silver rather than brass. Although you do see them they are incredibly rare especially for the whole movement to be in silver normally its just the balance cock not the rest and even they are uncommon. The watch is all original and has got its original outer case that has matching hallmarks. The original dial has got a bit of damage at the bottom and a few hairline cracks as can be seen in the photos. The dial also has its original beetle and poker hands which is a nice feature. The watch is in working order and appears to have been recently serviced however as it is 250 years old I can give no guarantee. A key will only be provided at buyers request. Nice Gilt Verge Fusee Pocket Watch Outer Case Only + Paper 18th Century (K21). Please see photographs for condition and size and weight. Nice antique case, unsure of age but could be late 18th century or early 19th Century. Date written on the back of the paper is for 1846 by John Dickman of Edinburgh who was a chronometer maker.
