Presented is a nice 21 jewel 16s Illinois Bunn Special, circa 1924, in a scarce attractive yellow gold filled correct signed case with a double sunk dial and recently serviced high grade movement. This Model 9 Bunn Special Grade features 21 jewels, gold jewel settings, gold balance screws, gold train and fancy damaskeened nickle plates and is a lever set. It has been very recently cleaned and is marked Bunn Special Illinois Watch Co. Springfield Adjusted Temp and Six Positions and bears the serial number 4532729. There are no signs of rust or corrosion, all the black filled is intact in the lettering and the balance has wonderful motion. The original double sunk boxcar dial features bold Arabic numbers and a large sub second bit at the 6 position. The dial faces up very nicely, as you can see in the pics but does have 2 light hairlines, one at the 12 and one at the bottom below the seconds bit. It is simply signed “Illinois” in and arc. Nice/very decent original wine colored steel hands. The scarce first model signed Bunn Special case (in 40 years of fooling with watches, this the the very first pattern back I’ve ever seen with this model) is a screw back and bezel yellow gold filled and features the unique to this style case bow with a bead/coin edge. Its in very nice condition with an unpersonalized crest with virtually no wearthru that I can find and the only this I do see is a slight “push” on the back that you need to reflect around to see. It is signed “Bunn Special Model 10 Karat Gold Filled Wadsworth Quality Pat’s Pend’g” and sports a new glass crystal. Nice Illinois railroad approved Bunn Special in a very scarce case. IN STUNNING CONDITION, NICE MONTGOMERY DIAL–GORGEOUS Case model #2 BAR OVER CROWN CASE. A clean and super accurate running condition Hamilton railroad grade 992E Elvinar movement, 16 size, 21 jewels, adjusted to temperature, Isochronism, and 5 positions, double roller, cupped gold jewel settings, gold train, sapphire pallets, stem wind, lever set railroad-grade beauty. Serial number of 2614589 dates this watch to 1937. This excellent Hamilton 992 movement is in top-notch working order, with a dead flat and true balance wheel motion that has a fine, wide arc and strong, steady beat. The movement is a smooth wind, starts right up on the 3rd wind and lever sets as designed. The movement holds time well within the railroad requirement of 30 seconds per week. Appearance wise, this movement is looking great, with no tarnish, no stains or jeweler’s marks and is one of the cleanest movements I have ever seen. The movement was found to have very minor and ordinary wear with no signs of abuse upon inspection, maintenance and servicing. Watch was serviced March 2016. This is a truly rare, high grade roaring classic that you will be proud to own. The Wadsworth 14K green gold filled case is in near mint condition with absolutely no sign of brassing. There are no dents, dings or depressions and he boasts a nice mirror finish with hardly a scratch. This was a real nice find and must have sat in a drawer for a good portion of it’s life. All items are packed very well & should have no problems with arriving in good conditions. German submarine U-302 was a Type VIIC U-boat of WW2 Germany’s Kriegsmarine during World War II. The submarine was laid down on 2 April 1941 at the Flender Werke yard at Lübeck as yard number 302, launched on 25 April 1942 and commissioned on 16 June under the command of Kapitänleutnant Herbert Sackel. The 11th U-boat Flotilla German 11. Unterseebootsflottille was formed on 15 May 1942 in Bergen, Norway. The flotilla operated mainly in the North Sea and against the Russian convoys (JW-, PQ-, QP- and RA series) in the Arctic Sea. The flotilla operated various marks of the Type VII U-boat until September, 1944, when it had an influx of some Type IX boats from France. Nice early XVIII brass sundial by Butterfield, Paris. The octagonal dial plate’s four hour scales, declination lines and numerals are engraved. The adjustable bird gnomon is finely engraved and markers for 40 to 60 degree latitudes, the bird’s beak acting as a pointer. The reverse is engraved with a table of latitudes with the names of sixteen cities, predominantly French, but also european capitals as London, Vienne, Madrid, Bruxelles, Basel, Milan and Turin. The compass bears the hallmark Fleur de Lys. Superb craftsmanship and elegant details belie its originality. The sundial measures 77 x 66mm. Case is 87 x 76 x 22mm. Comes in it’s original case of leather and green velvet (the case is in “as is” condition). The mineral glass is slightly domed. The hand of the compass is practically stuck. He arrived to France in 1663 and established manufactory of mathematical and astronomical instruments in Paris, firstly at faubourg Saint-Germain(1678) further at Quai de l’Horloge (1691). In 1680 under J. Cassini he made a planisphere for Royal Academy of Sciences in Paris. Being engineer of king Louis XIV for scientific instruments, he invented “quarts of circle” (instrument for measuring angles) and the sundial type, which got his name.
