It is a lever setting watch. The lid pops up nicely when the crown is pressed. This watch is 131 years old. The case is particularly ornate, notice the scalloped edge. The diameter of the case is 1 5/8 excluding the bow and crown. The movement is marked ILLINOIS WATCH CO SAFETY PINION 556286. ” The porcelain dial is marked “ILLINOIS. The dial is in perfect condition. The case is solid gold, not gold filled or gold plated. It has been tested by a professional jeweler. Also, if you look at the list of antique solid gold marks in the “Watches” book by Engle, Gilbert and Shugart the markings on the inside of the case (B. W. C. Co) signify a solid gold watch.
