A stunning large size Victorian Illinois 16K solid yellow gold hunter cased pocket watch dated 1884. A 132 year old Illinois 16K solid gold hunter with a signed Illinois Watch Co. Springfield, Illinois patent pinion gilt movement in excellent operating condition! This is your chance to own an exceptional Victorian 16K solid gold Illinois hunter cased pocket watch with the most amazing engraved case and covers! The watch bears the 16K Eagle facing left stamp that certifies 16K solid gold as noted on page 35 of the 2011 edition of the “COMPLETE PRICE GUIDE TO WATCHES” reference book. This beautiful antique timepiece has a case diameter of 42mm and weighs a substantial 63.7 grams, about half of which is 16K gold. I mention the gold content for a base value only. I would never destroy a beautiful antique gold pocket watch for the gold content. It is my hope that this watch ends up in the hands of an ardent collector for many years of enjoyment and appreciation! This gorgeous antique Illinois is in excellent operating and cosmetic condition with no dings, dents, scratches or repairs. The front cover pops open when the stem is depressed to halfway, then needs a little help. All covers open to exactly 90 degrees and snap tightly shut. The original hinges are excellent. The watch is stem wind and lever set. The wind is silky smooth and it keeps excellent time. Note the incredible intricately engraved scenes on both the front and rear covers! Scroll and engine turned highlights completely cover this superb example. The front cover features a very rare and highly detailed scene of a woman in typical period dress fishing with a detailed village, hills, foliage and bridge in the background. The rear cover features an extremely detailed walled mountainside village scene with a river, trees and foliage. Please examine the many photos for a close look. The signed Illinois Watch Co. Dial is hand lettered in black ink. The fine porcelain dial is snow white and in mint condition. With original blue steel spade hands and black Roman numerals and a small seconds sweep marked out in 10 second intervals. The inside rear cover is stamped. 18 ” inside a shield with the Eagle facing left inside a shield and ” B. The inside of the polished 16K gold cuvee is stamped B. 265369 with an age worn eagle symbol below. The front cover is stamped with matching number ” 265369 “. All serial numbers match, proving the watch to be all original. The pristine gilt movement is signed Illinois Watch Co. Note the elegant scrollwork on the balance cock.
