Pocket Watch Case

This is a nice antique mens timepiece from a local estate. It is 18 size, open face, stem wind and set, grade 44, model 5, Elgin, G. Wheeler model, 15 jewels. Serial #2117404 dates it to 1887. The movement is very nice and runs strong. It has not been cleaned or serviced, so I cannot guarantee it to be a perfectly reliable timekeeper. The porcelain dial is very good, with a fine hairline. The display back case is nickel, with a snap on bezel on each side, and a glass crystal. This is an original display case, and not one that was made from a regular case. The bezels are un-marked. Vintage Waltham Grade 820 Pocket Watch. 16 Size Hunting Case (Outside measurement case to case is 2.18 Inch). Model 1883 15 Jewel Manual wind movement, breguet style hairspring. Originally produced in 1899, only two thousand pieces of this fine vintage pocketwatch movement were manufactured in this run sequence even though there were approximately 413,500 number of movements produced for this grade, so a very collectible pocketwatch to own especially in this fine condition! The case is hallmarked Crescent Watch Case Co. And judging by the hallmark, the case was likely produced between 1882 – 1904, see link. We believe the case to be gold filled and are unsure whether its 10K Gold Filled or 14K Gold Filled, we did not find a hallmark. If you are new to collecting, this watch is likely not something you should consider, unless you have several years worth of experience and specialized knowledge in such timepieces that you are confident in what you are purchasing. I measured the movement in the case and it is approximately 42.4MM (1.67 Inch), indicating the watch size to be 16 size. Weight 139.2 Grams. We have a very fine sample of this beautiful piece, in excellent working condition. No repairs are evident to the 14K gold filled case and this piece shows little wear. New plastic crystal just installed. The case is beautiful, and there is a 12mm long ding on the outside-side of the case, nearest the sunken sub seconds dial. No hairline cracks or chips to the porcelain dial and everything is working! This is a well preserved piece that was left to our customer and it was a safe queen rarely removed or admired so here it is for sale. The watch weighs 123 grams. The 15j movement works and keeps accurate time, but winds a bit roughly. The case is in great condition for it’s age with a superficial dings on the front and back case. The dial is clean without cracks or blemishes and the glass crystal is clear. The latch and lid springs are working and the front, back and dust covers close firmly.
