RARE IWC International Watch Co 16J Cal 53T Pocket Watch 14k Solid Gold Case. Very unusual and beautiful IWC pocket watch. The movement serial number 400626 and case serial number 427288 date the watch to about 1907. The vast majority of Cal 53 movements were lever or pin set. However, t his movement is stem set. In 1927 approx 600 of the stem set 53T were produced. I believe the deco style of the case makes it more likely to be from that era. It is a mystery as to why a 53T would have such an early serial number. Either that or this may be some earlier unknown stem set variation of the 53. A truly stunning example that you will likely never find again! Gilt 16 Jewel IWC Movement with Probus Scafusia logo. Setting : Stem Wind Stem Set. Dial : Single sunk white enamel dial with Arabic numerals signed International Watch Co. Case : Original 14k solid gold case. Signed International Watch Co. Schaffhausen serial number 427288 with beautiful checkerboard engraving detail and stepped perimeters. Diameter : 54.25 mm. Total Weight : 88.06 grams. When fully wound and placed on a timegrapher in the dial up position for one minute it shows the watch gaining approximately +35 seconds per day. A few very fine scratches on the movement. Dial : Fracture and surface flake near 7. Hairlines near 1 and 3. Case : Excellent engraving detail with hardly any wear. No dents or dings. There are many very fine micro scratches on the exterior. Crown shows moderate wear. Front cover will tip forward and close easily with gravity. Stiff bow is worn thin at the top. Crystal : Crystal has a couple very light scuffs. (IWC) Mechanical 18K Solid Gold Hunting Case Pocket Watch retailed by Tiffany & Co as signed on the dial. It is also a historical watch presented by owners of Fort Marcy, champion race horse of the year 1970. The wonderful pocket watch even comes with original Tiffany & Co. This is really a wonderful horological collectible item for any watch collector! The pocket watch itself is a wonderful IWC pocket watch with Caliber 98 hand winding movement inside, it is just a beautiful horological specimen. Condition-wise the watch winds and runs well. However, we have not had it serviced as it is mostly kept as a collectible. We dont guarantee function for this watch. Cosmetically the watch is in very good shape for its age, there are a few dings on the case band and some thread like marks on the dial due to age that are hard to see. There is also a ding/crease near the presentation on caseback. Diameter is 49mm, total weight is 83g. Hands and crystal are in very good, clean condition. Porcelain dial has a couple of small edge chips which go undetected when the bezel is in place. Solid 14k Gold Hunters Case has a nice engine turned design on both outer covers and a solid 14k gold dust cover has C. Both front and back covers have 1 tiny dent as shown. The frame of the case has a couple of small flat spots but nothing I would consider from abnormal use or abuse. It was also confirmed by an expert in the field exclusively on antique and vintage IWC watches. Circa 1928 based on the movement serial number. The watch case measures approx. 49.7mm in diameter. The swiss equivalent of a size 16 or 16s. The champagne colored dial is stamped INTERNATIONAL WATCH CO. SCHAFFHAUSEN and is in good shape with mild patina. The 900 silver ART DECO open face case is in good condition with light tarnish. What I like about the case are the floral etchings along the edges and the CHECKERBOARD PATTERN to the rear cover. The inner rear cover is stamped PROBUS IWC SCAFUSIA (lion) 0,900 (hallmark) 935842 The movement is stamped 904834 PROBUS IWC SCAFUSIA The watch runs and keeps good time. For sale is a Niello cased IWC calibre 52 pocket watch, circa 1916. Niello is a special black metallic alloy of sulfur with silver. That is used to fill designs that have been engraved on the surface of a metal. The dial is recessed enamel and quite clean, and the hands have a wonderful moon and stars motif.
