This Goliath Swiss watch is cased in a Cross & Beguelin case. The case measures approx 71 mm with the movement measuring approx 56 mm. Has an exhibition back, matching case and movement serial numbers. I’ve had this running for a couple of days, looks to run and keep time. The minute hand however is not moving – may just need an adustment The watch has really nice bold Roman numerals and a second hand. On the front of the watch is a very thick protective crystal. RARE ART NOUVEAU OMEGA for BLACK, STARR & FROST 8 DAYS CAL. 30/40 GIANT SIZE TRAVEL WATCH WITH SILVER TRAVEL CASE. Up for sale is a very collectible Omega 8 Day Regulator Cal. 30/40′ open face Giant size travel watch, with a splendid Art Nouveau decorative silver and leather travel case, in good overall condition. The watch has been commissioned by the famous Black, Starr & Frost of New York, USA in early 1900′s, no other than the first American jewelry firm. The lovely ornate silver and leather case was most likely executed by the Black, Starr & Frost company. I have seen various styles for either Europe or American market, and these are some of the most exquisite. This is a giant size 104mm watch, with a weight of ca. The original silvered metal painted dial is in very good condition, with only minor stains or marks. Dial features black Roman numerals, black minute track and recessed seconds and is fitted with a lovely pair of blued Poire hands in good condition. Aside the full package, watch and case that is, the dial represents the main attraction to the watch, since the norm for these giant size Omega watches were enamel dials. I have seen a bit of variation in the giant range enamel dials – from Art Nouveau polychrome to either Arabic or Roman numeraled dials, but never a metal painted dial. The flat beveled crystal is original to the watch and remains in excellent condition. The silver fronted leather case has been professionally restored. That means, any existing material has been stripped down and replaced with new material (velvet, textile, leather). The front silver ornate cover, as well as the wood frame and hinged and locking mechanism remain in original condition. A similar size, original case, of the same retailer, served as a sample in restoration purposes. Lovely nickel case opens and closes nicely with a crisp sound, and shows various signs of wear like scratches or dents to the basin or back, or visible open marks. Inside case back matching serial # 3.081. Which should date it to early 1900′s. The movement has a winding mechanism through the crown at twelve. High quality, 30 lig. Lepine, 15 jewels, nickel finish movement, lovely decorated (specific to the American continent), with stepped balance cock and 8 days mainspring. Diameter of the watch excluding the pendant is 104 mm. Including pendant 145 mm. Thickness is 23.5 mm. All the imperfections are presented in picture. The watch is in working condition keeping time, but it was not observed for accuracy on a longer period, considering history service is unknown. Service can be arranged on request, or you can arrange service with your preferred watchmaker.
