Up for sale is a absolutely gorgeous piece of American history-a fully functional, antique Elgin pocket watch dating all the way back to around 1908! If you’re looking for a vintage piece that actually works and looks stunning doing it, this is the one. I’ve been letting it run, and it winds, sets, and ticks smoothly. Here are the exact details for the collectors out there. The Movement: Authentic Elgin National Watch Co. Mechanical movement, stamped with serial number 13190843 (which places its production right in 1908). It’s a 7-jewel workhorse grade featuring a safety pinion. The Dial: A crisp, beautiful white porcelain/enamel dial with classic Roman numerals, elegant blued-steel hands, and a sunken seconds sub-dial. The dial is incredibly clean with no nasty hairline cracks. The Case: Cased in a “Defiance” gold-filled pocket watch case warranted for 10 years (serial number 858549). Aside from the fact that it runs, the real star of the show here is the case artwork. The back features a stunning, highly detailed Art Nouveau floral engraving. Instead of a standard initials monogram, the little shield on the back actually has a tiny, beautifully engraved scenic castle/estate scene, which is super unique and adds tons of character. Condition Notes: Excellent vintage condition for being 118 years old! The engraving is still nice and crisp, and the crystal and dial are in fantastic shape. Please review the photos closely to see the exact condition for yourself. If you plan to wear it every single day, a routine professional cleaning and oiling is always recommended to keep it happy and accurate for the long haul!

WHY THIS WATCH BELONGS IN YOUR CORRAL. Look, we aren’t going to pull the wool over your eyes-most century-old watches found in old barn chests look like they were trampled by a herd of angry mountain goats. This Ruefli piece is an absolute show-goat on the inside and outside. The dial setup has an incredible amount of early military charisma. Back during the Great War, officers wore these exact types of wristlets in the trenches because fumbling through a coat for a pocket watch was a great way to get targeted by an enemy patrol. The “Red 12″ was designed specifically so soldiers could instantly orient the dial in low-light environments. The 10 jewel heart inside is exceptionally clean, looking like it was locked inside a vault away from our clumsy farmhands. Don’t let this jaw-dropping slice of global history trot away into someone else’s pasture.
