Hello, this listing is for an awesome and Rare. 829 Pair Case Sterling Chain Drive Fusee Verge Pocket Watch by Bullingford, London #3454. There is a similar one in the Museums Victoria Collections. This is offered for restoration – Item currently not running-Chain intact and fully wound around the Fusee. Balance appears to be okay- needs restoration – cleaning servicing etc. This Men’s watch measures approx. 56.5mm across the outer case. This is the way I received it outer case and all. Outer case is a bit loose on the inner case but looks and works fine. Outer case is unmarked and has dents and dings. Inner case has some dings but much better. Very high original Bulls Eye crystal in nice condition with some scratches as shown. Case hallmarked Birmingham 1829-see pictures. Round turned columns on the movement. Great find for the restored! Dial is very nice – original Gold color or possibly low karat Gold hands. Antique watch winding key included but not pictured. Total weight is approx. Really a great find. Good British pair case verge fusee watch for Ottoman market. Diameter of inner case is 47mm, outer case is 58mm. George Prior may be the best known maker for Ottoman market. Baillie mentions George Prior as maker of repute, especially in watches for Turkey. Received two awards from Society of Arts. Watches in multiple museum collections worldwide. Watch features enamel movement, signed in Arabic, with rare monogrammed cock, decorated with “gp” letters for George Prior. White enamel dial with Arabic numbers. Both cases bears London date hallmarks for 1832 and WB maker’s mark. Condition Condition is quite good. Dial is in good condition with minor wear. PAIR CASED 18TH CENTURY SILVER VERGE FUSEE WATCH NO. 811 H, NICOLLS LONDON. A very rare watch that needs to have one hand added and a number 2 key. There is a cut out paper advertisement in the outer case that says Maker Meeksham. So, this is where the actual watchmaker H. You’re probably not going to run into very many of this case type, unless you have a very old watch that’s been handed down to you. In the early to mid-18th century, it was common for watches to be housed in “pair cases”. A pair-cased watch has an inner case which holds the actual movement of the watch (often a verge fusee), and an outer case which enclosed and protected the inner case. Since the inner case couldn’t be made dust-proof because of the key-holes for winding and/or setting, an outer case would provide additional protection from dust and dirt. There were even some triple-cased watches made during the same period! Early pair-cased verge fusee watches were often ornately decorated with pierced and chased gold-work as seen in the photos below. This is a key wind Verge Fusee Calendar (The calendar is just an ornamentation and is non working). / Stop watch pair case English made. This watch is dated at 1776. This watch is in very good working condition. Case: The outer Sterling silver case has the Silver halmark and date halmark on the inner bezel. (The same as the inner case) The outer case Has no big dings , just some small scratcher, but the push pin has lost some silver. On the inner back case has been solded over. TheMovement cases is stamped with the case maker L. B, the London halmark, the date halmark for 1776 and the Silver halmark. The case has dings and fine scratches. All hingers on both cases are good and the lids shut tight. The DIAL: The dial is white enamel with an ornamental Calendar hand, this hand does not function. With one repaired chip on the calenar dial near the center and there are some fine hairlines. The hands look to be gold and are in very good condition and this watch sets and winds with no problems. Has a bull nose crystal with no scratches. The Movement: The beautiful gold gilted Verge Fusee movement is signed I. Roberts LIVERPOOL No 28991. There has no gold loss and the movement is in perfect working order The balance cock has a diamond end stone and the movement is clean. Winds and set very well. Runs the full length of the chain with a hard sounding tick and keeping very well verge time I noticed almost no deviation per 24 hours runtime – WOW!!!! The movement shines like it was made yesterday, is signed “Mt Drayton” from Arkinstall and bears the serial number 4154. Nice old blue steel hands. All covers open and close with a tight fit as it should. Enamel dial with roman numerals in a splendid condition! Both cases have indentical hallmarks for London, year 1832.
