This recent find comes from Estate of Retired Military Officer and Pocket Watch Collector. Pocket watch best I can figure dates to the late 1700′s and was a product of John Priest J. PRIEST who was a workman for George Graham and Thomas Colley a Simon Barkley was also brought in as a partner until his death in the 1750′s at this point John Priest took Barkley’s place next to Colley (Information from the 18th century vergefusee site). Timepiece is a Counter-Clockwise wind and has the Baluster Pillars with what I believe is a Gilt Brass Full-Plate. Movement is signed J. Priest with Birstwith No. 204 in Cursive under name. Both cases seem to match and look to be sterling, They also show some expected use/age wear (See picture #11 and #12). Outer case has 3 round service cards from what looks to be dates from 1811/1840s and 1870s (Also 2 quote card’s). Previous owner had watch serviced around 2016 and it Runs Good – (I have put Watch through 3 full winds and it tends to run +/- 1 to 3 minutes) it tends to start out slow but catches up between the 12 hour and 24 hour mark? 18th century english pocket watch. Signed key wind Movement by benjamin sidey, London, model no. Dial: later white enamel, with black Roman numerals, 5 minute markers, fleur-de-lis hands. Inner case: plain polished Gilt Sterling, bearing english hallmarks for London (leopard’s head), sterling (lion), maker IW, date letter O for 1771, measures 41mm, has glass crystal. (there is a piece of paper that says Benj sidey 1769 inside the outer case, that date may be for the movement). Outer case: ornate gilt silver, featuring repousse mythological scene with two figures within a scrolling framework, measures 47.5mm. As is condition, no key, we don’t know if it works, the outer case has some wear to the gilt finish on the high points, was in storage for many years, previously owned, from the collection of a local pocket watch collector. Mid 18th century verge fusee made by Leamoure of London. The watch has a beautiful sharp edged repouse outer case, good clear crystal, clean and fully functional movement. This very ornate case has an outer diameter of 54 mm not including the hinge and an inner diameter of 38 mm. And a depth of approximately 15 mm. The watch case has been tested and it is 18k gold (guaranteed). The case back is extremely fancy and well done. The figures are layered over another plate of gold giving a very three dimensional appearance. The figures are a classical scene of three people two men and a women in a forested setting. In great condition and good working order. The watch has a square pillar verge fusee chain driven movement with large D foot pierced balance cock and Tompion style regulator disk. The movement is working well and runs the full length of the chain. Movement signed Jn’o (John) Lumprey, Banbury, 203. Sterling silver matching pair case. Unfortunately no visible hallmarks, but guaranteed silver, matching and original to the watch. It wasn’t uncommon to have silver watch cases made without hallmarks in the 18th century. Both cases in good condition with some signs of wear and light marks commensurate with the watches age, please see pictures for more details. Century English Verge in underpainted horn gilt pair cases. C/w Key (not original). The watch is in ticking order but because of it’s age no guarantee can be given on the time keeping. Full plate fire gilt movement with Round pillars. Pierced and engraved cock, silver regulator disc. Fusee and chain with worm and wheel barrel setup between the plates. Plain three arm steel balance, blue steel spiral hairspring. White enamel dial with Roman numerals, fine gold hands. There is a repair to the dial by 6 (see photo). Gilt metal pair cases, gilt pendant and bow. Plain gilt inner, maker’s mark “what looks like W P with an eight armed star above”. Gilt outer covered in translucent horn underpainted lady in costume, Vase and Plinth, Flora. The underpainted horn in a reasonable condition there is discoloration and split, the case is not a perfect fit around the top but it will close.
