IT KEEPS TIME TO WITHIN SECONDS A DAY AND SOMETIMES EVENS OUT AS I HAVE CARRIED IT QUITE A BIT SEVERAL MONTHS AGO. IN A VELVET BAG OF COURSE AND THIS IS INCLUED. THE ENTIRE MOVEMENT WAS DISASSEMBLED AND CHECKED OVER COMPLETLY. NOT EVEN ONE CRACK IN ANY OF THE JEWELS. ADJUSTED TO 5 POSITIONS. THIS IS ESPECIALLY NEAT AS ONLY THE 19 JEWEL AND 23 JEWEL MODELS HAVE THE JEWELED MAINSPRING BARREL. (THE 17J & 21J DO NOT). AND THE 23 JEWEL BALL 999 IS WORTH A FORTUNE IF YOU CAN FIND ONE. This is a nice antique mens timepiece from a local estate. It is 18 size, open face, stem wind and set, grade 44, model 5, Elgin, G. Wheeler model, 15 jewels. Serial #2117404 dates it to 1887. The movement is very nice and runs strong. It has not been cleaned or serviced, so I cannot guarantee it to be a perfectly reliable timekeeper. The porcelain dial is very good, with a fine hairline. The display back case is nickel, with a snap on bezel on each side, and a glass crystal. This is an original display case, and not one that was made from a regular case. The bezels are un-marked. Here’s a good Illinois display case. Has only one original lever notch. Has a nice firm bow and crisp crown. Not loaded with case screw marks. One crystal is glass in good shape other than a small chip on the bevel. The other crystal is plastic but in pretty good shape.
