We are constantly adding to our ever increasing range and have a large assortment of American Railroad Grade Pocket Watches. American Railroad Pocket watches. Were amongst the highest grade watches made, having been made for the railways makes them a great choice to use every day, mainly for their durability over time. Their lower production quantities and of course their high grade movements make them also a great gift or investment. A typical railroad’s requirements for a pocket watch in the early 20th century might include. Only American-made watches may be used (depending on availability of spare parts). Only open-faced dials, with the stem at 12 o. Minimum of 17 functional jewels in the movement. Size 16 or 18 only. Maximum variation of 30 seconds (approximately 4 seconds daily) per weekly check. Watch adjusted to at least five positions: Face up and face down (the positions a watch might commonly take when laid on a flat surface); then crown up, crown pointing left, and crown pointing right (the positions a watch might commonly take in a pocket). Occasionally a sixth position, crown pointing down, would be included. Adjusted for severe temperature variance and isochronism (variance in spring tension). Indication of time with bold legible Arabic numerals, outer minute division, second dial, heavy hands. Lever used to set the time (no risk of inadvertently setting the watch to an erroneous time, when winding the watch with the stem). Anti-magnetic protection (after the advent of diesel-electric locomotives). The minimum requirements were raised several times as watch-making technology progressed, and the watch companies produced newer, even more reliable models. By WW2, many railroads required watches that were of a much higher grade (as many as 23 jewels, for example) than those made to comply with the original 1891 standard. _gsrx_vers_854 GS 7.0.18 (854). Amazing Rare 1780′s Irish made by Daniel Sway of Cork with super low serial number of 124, Silver pair cased verge fusee. Outstanding custom made Solid sterling silver matching pair case. Probably made by the watchmaker or a local silversmith. Beautiful white colored porcelain dial with nice Bold Black Roman numerals and sharp clean 5 minuet chapter ring. Dial has plenty of very light spider lines and light scratches but the porcelain dial is all there. Perfect condition beetle poker hands. Outstanding near spotless high domed crystal. All case covers open, close and fit perfect together with nice and tight hinges. Key wind and key set pocket watch runs full length of chain. Balance has unbelievable motion with a nice sharp tick. The balance bridge with its falcon bird design and bright Jeweled end stone is just amazing. Truly a piece of art. The movement is near mint with sharp blue screws and a Beautiful silver disked index for regulating. Pocket watch measures a nice 50mm excluding the bow. Pocket watch runs outstanding and keeps great fusee time, last checked it was running about 1 or 2 minutes slow within approx. 24 hour period hanging from a hook in the vertical position…….. But cannot guarantee accuracy upon sale. These watches are verge type. Meant to keep time, not perfect time. Also special care must be taken not to overwind these old museum pieces and always remember to wind counter clockwise. Inside the case is an old paper with a date from 1803. Watch comes with a sharp key for winding. Note all of my pocket watches have been personally serviced and restored to there best working order according to there age and condition. Pocket watch is listed in The Watch and Clock Makers of the World book as Sway, Daniel. Dublin pre – 1788. This is just an amazing looking and outstanding condition Rare 235 year old verge fusee pocket watch that functions and runs superb. It’s a very Rare locally made Irish verge fusee by an Early Irish watchmaker. A beautiful timepiece you would be proud to own and display. Spectacular Irish Silver Pair Case Verge Fusee Antique Pocket Watch 1771

Up for sale is a beautiful and rare Irish silver verge fusee pair case antique pocket watch, hallmarked for 1771. The watch has not been cleaned and serviced but the movement is in good working condition. It runs to the end of the fusee chain very smoothly and keeps very good time. 65 minutes fast for 24 hours – very good time keeping for an early verge like this. The movement: Three arm gilt balance wheel. Beautiful engraved top plate and balance cock. Large diamond end stone. The beautiful fire gilt movement is signed. Is one of the very good Irish watch makes of England in the 18th century. He is well listed in all the reference books. For a good example you can look at: G. Baillie, Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World, Vol. The inner case: Silver, very nice condition. It probably was gilted in the past, because I can notice signs of gilt on the out side, and very nice gilting on the inside. The case is fully hallmarked for Dublin 1771, with the case makers initials J C. The outer case: Silver, very good condition, one small dent from the outside, but has some scratches in the inside. With the case makers initials J C. Both cases are original. It is a large and heavy pair case silver pocket watch. The silver inner case is 45 mm wide and the silver outer case is 53 mm. The watch weighs 118 grams. 4 lovely watch papers! The extremely early and near mint original enamel dial has Arabic numerals. Beetle and poker hands. A lovely high domed bulls eye clear crystal glass. Every part of this watch is original. As you can see from the pictures, it is a lovely and spectacular watch in an amazing condition!! FINELY ETCHED GEORGIAN IRISH DUBLIN SILVER VERGE FUSEE PAIR CASE POCKET WATCH. Thank you for having a look at my auctions. I do wish everyone the very best of luck winning the auctions! The pocket watch does not come with a key, however using a key from another pocket watch this watch does wind and run very nicely. The pocket watch case has London sterling hallmarks for the year 1810. The movement is signed M George, Dublin, 11505. The movement is of very fine quality and has a great figural pierced cock. The watch shows some minor imperfections consummate with its early age. The porcelain enamel dial has some cracks as seen. The watch has a bullseye glass dial cover that is likely original. Overall for its age this pocket watch is in good estate fresh condition as seen, and most importantly it is running. This pocket watch is a large size example measuring 3 1/4 inches tall, by 2 1/4 inches wide, and 1 inch thick. The pocket watch weighs 138 grams. A really nice early example.
