Here we offer a very rare Irish Verge Fusee Pocket Watch, which has a Silver Champleve Dial, signed Coote, Dublin which is in very good condition. It bears the Case Makers Mark W N on the inner and outer. The Movement is signed Thos. Coote, Dublin; is working very well, but runs very slowly, in the dial down position. It is Key Wound on the Back and and Key Set on the Dial and bears the low sn 133. Note the early grotesque Face of Chronos on the cock. H Bailie lists Thomas Coote in Dublin from 1733 to 1747. He is listed as a Quarter Brother in 1733 in Watch and Clockmakers in Ireland, by William Galland Stuart : (Edited by David Boles). The Verge Fusee Movement has Egyptian Pillars and is in very good cosmetic and working condition. It was recently Serviced by my Watchmaker and runs very slow in the dial down position over 24 hours. It will tick for a short time in the dial up position and stop. It is housed in Silver Pair Cases, stamped with the Makers Mark W N. The Outer measures 50mm in diameter and is in very good condition. The 43mm Watch Case is also in Excellent condition and is 20mm deep (25.4mm =1 inch). The 38mm Silver Champleve Dial is in very good condition. It has Roman Hour Numerals and Arabic Minutes in the outer chapter ring. It comes to you directly from a large Irish Watch Collection, which was assembled over the past 40-50 years. The pocket watch does not come with a key, however using a key from another pocket watch this watch does wind and run very nicely. The pocket watch case has London sterling hallmarks for the year 1810. The movement is signed M George, Dublin, 11505. The movement is of very fine quality and has a great figural pierced cock. The watch shows some minor imperfections consummate with its early age. The porcelain enamel dial has some cracks as seen. The watch has a bullseye glass dial cover that is likely original. Overall for its age this pocket watch is in good estate fresh condition as seen, and most importantly it is running. This pocket watch is a large size example measuring 3 1/4 inches tall, by 2 1/4 inches wide, and 1 inch thick. The pocket watch weighs 138 grams. A really nice early example.
