For your consideration is a rare antique heavy 18K gold hunting case Louis Audemars Independent dead beat seconds complication with calendar date. Made for the French market. Late 1850s, cased in the 1880s. The original white double sunk porcelain dial is unsigned as was common with LA watches with black Roman numeral hour markers, original rose gold spade hands and subsidiary calendar date below. The dial is free of hairlines, chips or cracks. The case is a large and heavy 18K gold hunting case with solid 18K gold cuvette with advertising in the French language of the complications of this watch. Swiss Helvética gold stamps can be seen on all the doors and hallmarks on the middle case near the movement. This case was not made by Meylan Freres who were the exclusive case makers for Audemars. Enamel monogram initials are seen on the dial side front cover and enamel work on the back cover. There is a 18K pusher which starts and stops the second hand. The crown is missing some gold (peeling). The crown when pushed should open the front cover but the tube may be missing because I need to open the front cover with my nail to open it. The case measures 54mm not counting the crown or bow. This watch weighs a very heavy 136.8 grams. The movement is a ultra high grade lever set nickel plated 32 jewel two train tandem winding movement with independent dead beat seconds complication and calendar movement. The second hand ticks like a quartz watch would on beat and the gold pusher can start and stop the seconds but doesnt return the hand to zero like a chronograph. Anchor escapement and Breguet blue balance spring. This first quality movement is complete and in working condition telling strong time and the pusher stops and starts the seconds properly. Case : near perfect condition Hamilton Case Model #A, the correct case for the 950B. It features the smooth back framed by the beaded Deco-era concentric circles, the thick, sturdy neck, large and wind-able crown, and the railroader’s preferred sturdy arching bow!!
