These watches are getting rarer and rarer. Just look at the amazing work on the movement! Made By N Preston of London. And retailed by F. Rampton, watch maker and jeweller from hailsham high street around 1800. This watch is cased in solid silver. The dial is completly original and unrestored. Please view all the pictures even just to admire the work of the movement. I havent checked it for time keeping as i never like to wind these old watches too much. I have slightly wound it and its working and keeping time for the last 2 hours. This is a collectors watch not an everyday watch. And over all a lovely pocket watch thats pushing 230 years old. Good British pair case verge fusee watch for Ottoman market. Diameter of inner case is 47mm, outer case is 58mm. George Prior may be the best known maker for Ottoman market. Baillie mentions George Prior as maker of repute, especially in watches for Turkey. Received two awards from Society of Arts. Watches in multiple museum collections worldwide. Watch features enamel movement, signed in Arabic, with rare monogrammed cock, decorated with “gp” letters for George Prior. White enamel dial with Arabic numbers. Both cases bears London date hallmarks for 1832 and WB maker’s mark. Condition Condition is quite good. Dial is in good condition with minor wear. Movement is running in every position, though I don’t guarantee time keeping. The case appears to be in good condition with common period wear. Sterling silver pair case pocket watch made by N. Preston with a London hallmark for 1811. Preston is listed in G. Working well runs the full length of the chain, and keeps time, within 5 minutes day. The dial is cracked and the glass has damage, check the photos. Over 200 years old, look after it and it could survive another 200 years. The 2 hallmarks are matching. Original service papers dated 1823, 1824, 1830 and another that I can’t read the date. PAIR CASED 18TH CENTURY SILVER VERGE FUSEE WATCH NO. 811 H, NICOLLS LONDON. A very rare watch that needs to have one hand added and a number 2 key. There is a cut out paper advertisement in the outer case that says Maker Meeksham. So, this is where the actual watchmaker H. You’re probably not going to run into very many of this case type, unless you have a very old watch that’s been handed down to you. In the early to mid-18th century, it was common for watches to be housed in “pair cases”. A pair-cased watch has an inner case which holds the actual movement of the watch (often a verge fusee), and an outer case which enclosed and protected the inner case. Since the inner case couldn’t be made dust-proof because of the key-holes for winding and/or setting, an outer case would provide additional protection from dust and dirt. There were even some triple-cased watches made during the same period! Early pair-cased verge fusee watches were often ornately decorated with pierced and chased gold-work as seen in the photos below. Pair Case Verge Fusee Calendar / stop watch pocket watch dated 1776. This is a key wind Verge Fusee Calendar (The calendar is just an ornamentation and is non working). / Stop watch pair case English made. This watch is dated at 1776. This watch is in very good working condition. Case: The outer Sterling silver case has the Silver halmark and date halmark on the inner bezel. (The same as the inner case) The outer case Has no big dings , just some small scratcher, but the push pin has lost some silver. On the inner back case has been solded over. TheMovement cases is stamped with the case maker L. B, the London halmark, the date halmark for 1776 and the Silver halmark. The case has dings and fine scratches. All hingers on both cases are good and the lids shut tight. The DIAL: The dial is white enamel with an ornamental Calendar hand, this hand does not function. With one repaired chip on the calenar dial near the center and there are some fine hairlines. The hands look to be gold and are in very good condition and this watch sets and winds with no problems. Has a bull nose crystal with no scratches. The Movement: The beautiful gold gilted Verge Fusee movement is signed I. Roberts LIVERPOOL No 28991. There has no gold loss and the movement is in perfect working order The balance cock has a diamond end stone and the movement is clean. Winds and set very well. HALF HUNTER PAIR CASED VERGE FUSEE Pocket Watch. Recently fully serviced and in great working condition! Runs the full length of the chain with a hard sounding tick and keeping very well verge time I noticed almost no deviation per 24 hours runtime – WOW!!!! The movement shines like it was made yesterday, is signed “Mt Drayton” from Arkinstall and bears the serial number 4154. Nice old blue steel hands. All covers open and close with a tight fit as it should. Enamel dial with roman numerals in a splendid condition! Both cases have indentical hallmarks for London, year 1832. Cases are solid sterling silver, hand polished and looking great. Original old watchpaper and a fitting key are included. A superb addition to each valuable collection. An early silver pair cased pocket watch with a lovely decorative square pillar verge movement signed’JL Wynne, ALRESFORD No291′ , dating to circa 1800, in good general condition. John Lawrence Wynne is listed as working in Alresford Hants. The inner and outer silver cases are in good general condition but are not original. I believe they have been made to measure for the movement at a later date. The only markings on the case are initials’MBW’ on the inner case, see photo. No hallmarks so presumably white metal not solid silver. The outer case measures 50mm diameter and the inner case 41mm diameter. The bulls-eye glass crystal is in good condition. The convex enamel dial has a little damage, refer to photos. The beetle and poker hands are in good condition. The decorative fusee movement has a verge escapement, with a pierced and engraved balance cock, square baluster pillars and includes a calendar function (see photo with dial removed). The movement catch spring has a lovely scroll decorative finish to the end. The balance swings fine but the movement doesn’t run, so requires attention, the calendar function is in working order. The movement is signed’J. L Wynne, ALRESFORD’ and numbered’291′. The movement is key wind and set which work fine, modern key included. This is a very nice antique watch from a local estate. It measures 48mm in diameter (outer Case). The watch is in a plain silver pair case. The movement has square pillars, verge fusee, pierced balance cock, signed Cha Bifield 4787 LONDON. The movement is in very good condition, and runs. The white porcelain dial is original. It does have an edge chip at the bottom. The outer pair case has no marks whatsoever. The inner case has 2 marks visible that are rubbed and hard to read. I can see the lion silver standard, and the other mark looks like the crowned leopard head. There is also a case makers mark that looks like an HT to me. The outer case has some side dents from normal age and use. It has a good strong case lock spring. The watch has a plastic replacement crystal. A key is included.
