Up for sale, is a beautiful, very large, and rare silver pair case verge fusee antique pocket watch, with a lovely chamlpleve dial, and a date indicator, circa 1741. The watch has just been cleaned and serviced and the movement is in perfect working condition. It runs to the end of the fusee chain in all positions very smoothly and keeps very good time. The beautiful fire gilt movement is signed. Three arm gilt balance. Beautiful engraved top plate and balance cock. Main spring barrel with worm – classic feature for early verge movements. The movement is in wonderful condition. Is very well listed in all the reference books. For a good example you can look at: Brian Loomes, Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World, Complete 21st Century Edition, p. He has watches and clocks on display in several collections. This specific watch is one of the first watches made by Weldon. Very large and deep. Silver inner case in very good condition. Hallmarked for London 1741. Plain silver original outer case. The dial with Roman numerals for the hours and Arabic outside numerals for the minutes. Fully functional date indicator. As mentioned, it is a large and heavy silver pair case pocket watch. The silver inner case is 51 mm wide and the silver outer case is 59 mm. The watch weighs 150 grams. It is almost the size of a French oignon pocket watch.
